Medical Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles into myofascial trigger points in the soft tissue to treat musculoskeletal pain. The needles evoke a ‘twitch response’, which then leads to relaxation of the affected muscle. The needles can also stimulate the peripheral nervous system, eliciting a release of endorphins which are natural pain relieving chemicals.
Medical acupuncture differs from traditional Chinese acupuncture in its theory and is based on the structure and function of the body in line with modern Western medicine.
Medical Acupuncture can effectively treat both primary muscular pain and the musculoskeletal manifestations of conditions such as arthritis, stress and anxiety.
